Not to be confused with creepypasta (that’s an entirely different topic by itself), a copypasta is a recycled block of text that users copy and paste several times on the internet, essentially turning it into a trend. Sounds technical, doesn’t it? But it’s no different than Twitter users reusing a certain meme template or joke format in their tweets.
We’re still open to the possibility of a John Cena creepypasta.
Copypastas are usually humorous, satirical, and not at all as worrying as those copy-paste chain emails that told you imminent death was coming if you didn’t send a passage of text to your grandmother within 24 hours. Those were wild days for the World Wide Web, weren’t they?
You’ll typically find copypastas on Twitter, Reddit, and other community-based social media platforms.
The Bing Chilling copypasta, as it’s come to be known, derived from a video of world-famous wrestler-turned-actor John Cena. If you don’t know him as a WWE superstar, you might recognize him as DC’s Peacemaker.
In the video, which surfaced in 2021, John Cena speaks Chinese to promote Fast and Furious 9 in China. We’re lucky that Cena didn’t activate his “you can’t see me” superpower and vanish on us. He must have been desperate to promote FF9. It became an internet sensation when YouTubers started parodying it by altering the English subtitles to make it appear as though Cena was in a dire situation (i.e. a kidnapping, ransom, etc).
Additionally, edits were crafted to emphasize the way Cena says “ice cream” — Bing Qi Lin / 冰淇淋) in Mandarin — as “Bing Chilling.” Essentially, Cena said that although he loves ice cream, it isn’t as good as the new Fast and Furious movie.
Below are some examples we’ve compiled of the Bing Chilling copypasta, but unless you’re fluent in Mandarin, good luck understanding the first one. As long as “BING CHILLING” is capitlized, that’s all you’ll need.

- Good morning, China. Now, I have ice cream. I really like ice cream. But, The Fast and Furious 9, compared to ice cream, I like Fast and Furious 9 the most. So now, is music time. Ready? 1, 2, 3. After two weeks, The Fast and Furious 9, after two weeks, The Fast and Furious 9, after two weeks, The Fast and Furious 9. Don’t forget, don’t miss it, go to the cinema and watch The Fast and Furious 9. It’s a great movie. The actions are great like ice cream. Goodbye.
Listen, the irony of how stupid this is isn’t lost on us. But it made the rounds on the internet, and honestly, if you find yourself down a rabbit hole of “Bing Chilling” memes, you’ll emerge a changed person with a newfound appreciation of Jonathan “You Can’t See Me” Cena.
