So far, we knew RDJ is Doctor Doom but now Marvel unleashed the first teaser trailer for one of the most awaited movies this year and we have a lot to spill; ranging from the plot to the cast, there are countless topics. As excited as we all are, let’s dissect as many easter eggs and short glimpses from the trailer as we can.
The Trailer Dropped July 20, 2026
No need to pinch yourself, it’s real.
Marvel Studios released the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday on Monday, July 20, 2026. The two-minute teaser opens on a throne room in Latveria, draped in shadows and the signature green cloth. The world sees Robert Downey Jr. not as Tony Stark, but as Victor Von Doom.
There’s no quipping, no neon-lit battlefields. Just destruction, silence, and the weight of a new threat. “Doomsday” trended worldwide on every platform, and fan theories started flooding in before the trailer even finished playing.

The trailer shows him in full comic-accurate armor: a green hooded cloak, metallic faceplate, and mechanical gauntlets that crackle with green energy.
One shot captures him walking through his castle past a massive painting of a woman and a young boy, likely his wife and son, a deep cut for comic readers who know of Doom’s tragic backstory.
X-Men And The Fantastic Four
The trailer confirms that Avengers: Doomsday is pulling from every corner of the Marvel universe.
Vanessa Kirby appears as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, marking the Fantastic Four’s official integration into the main MCU timeline.
But the biggest surprise is the tease of Fox’s archival X-Men roster. Brief flashes of familiar silhouettes suggest characters from the original X-Men films will appear, though the trailer doesn’t show their faces clearly.
Thor Leads the Charge
And this time, he’s fighting for more than Asgard.
My man, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is positioned as the emotional and physical anchor of this film. The trailer shows him standing alone in a ruined city, stormbreaker in hand, lightning crackling across the sky as he faces an unseen enemy.
Later, he’s shown leading a charge alongside Captain America and the Wakandan army, but the weight is clearly on his shoulders.
Mind you, this is a Thor who has lost everything: his father, his mother, his brother, his home, and his purpose. Hemsworth has described this version of Thor as “the most broken he’s ever been” in interviews, and the trailer backs that up.
Loki Is Back
If Thor is back, how can we not think about Loki?
The trailer confirms what fans have been hoping for since Loki Season 2: Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is officially returning to the big screen.
Footage shows Loki standing in the shadows of what appears to be the TVA, but later shots place him on a battlefield alongside Thor, marking the first time the brothers have been in the same film since Loki’s death in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, one of the many deaths from that movie we all collectively grieved.
The emotional weight of a Thor-Loki reunion after nearly a decade is immense, and early reactions suggest their scenes together, at least for me, are the heart of the film.
The End Scene
The topic we’ve all been waiting for. (Scroll past this if you don’t want a major spoiler.)
The iconic scene that broke the internet during Avengers Endgame has done it again just from the Doomsday trailer.
The screen cuts to black. Then a familiar sound, the hum of Mjolnir. The camera pulls back to reveal Chris Evans standing, perhaps as Steve Rogers, with longer hair and a dashing beard. Across from him stands Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, who holds out Mjolnir: only for Steve to summon the hammer into his own hand, just like he did before.
I don’t know about you, but I can barely wait five months to know about the backstory of this scene.
The release date is locked: Friday, December 18, 2026, same day as Dune: Part Three. The trailer confirms it in its final title card, and tickets are already on sale through Marvel’s Infinity Vision program. This is the first Avengers film since Endgame in 2019.
No matter what big words I use, nothing can capture how enthralled I am by this trailer and I can’t wait to tear up seeing Steve Rogers on the big screen especially alongside my favorite, Thor. Until then, keep the fan theories cooking!
