The upheaval of horror movies this year has seen another upcoming addition, “Evil Dead Burn”, all set to hit the theatres and build new fears in all our minds, on 10 July 2026. It’s the sixth film in the gore “Evil Dead” franchise and the third standalone. These movies don’t just scare you, it hits you right in the gut. Very exciting, but also very horrifying.

The Plot

The plot is simple but nonetheless, dreadful. After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws at their secluded family house. And from there, everything goes downhill. One by one, family members start transforming into Deadites, the demonically possessed creatures from the Necronomicon, and that’s no sunshine and strawberries.

Compared to the previous movies in this franchise, this one also features a female lead dealing with a deeply personal struggle, the death of her husband. Apart from that, the in-laws dynamic in this sequel is quite daunting and complicated considering the movie will dig into equal parts horror, gore and brutality.

New Director, Same Direction?

In case you didn’t know, Sébastien Vaniček took over the direction for this movie. A little about him? Vaniček is a French horror director known for Infested (2023), a tense dreadful movie. He has co-written the movie along with Florent Bernard with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert back as producers.

I’d be lying if I said, I’m not extremely thrilled to see what magic our French director makes with all his horror sensibility of that native. Not just this, but another thing that excites me is how different is his direction and vision going to be, against Fede Álvarez and Lee Cronin. Guess we’ll know soon enough.

Meet The Cast

So, who’s fighting the Deadites this time? Starting off strong with Souheila Yacoub as the protagonist (The woman who lost her husband), known for her character Shishakli in “Dune: Part Two”, then we have Hunter Doohan, who plays the member of the family who eventually gets possessed; he’s renowned for his role as Tyler Galpin in Netflix’s “Wednesay.” As the supporting cast, there is Luciane Buchanan, Tandi Wright and Erroll Shand, likely to play as members of the in-law family.

What To Expect

The audience’s reaction has been quite positive. True to its franchise tradition, the story line relies on heavily practical brutality over gore graphics and CGI visuals. The title itself is quite metaphorical and layered symbolising how the possessed family members will burn away their old human-self to survive the horrors of the secluded mansion.

Apart from this, like I mentioned earlier, there’s a new exciting entry of the French director, Sébastien Vaniček, who’ll add the French essence, not the romantic one, but the horrifying one that he actually has experience of. The runtime for the film is expected to be around 95 to 100 minutes of pure wetting-your-pants-kind-of dread.

So, I ask you again, are you prepared yet? For the horror to consume you, for the dread to be your first emotional instinct when you enter an isolated place and lastly to witness it all in the coming few days. Don’t worry, probably won’t be as scary as it sounds, hopefully.
