BMI Categories

BMI values are generally classified into the following categories:

  • Underweight: BMI less than 18.5
  • Normal weight: BMI between 18.5 and 24.9
  • Overweight: BMI between 25 and 29.9
  • Obese: BMI 30 and above

Why Is BMI Important?

  • Does not consider fat distribution – Two people with the same BMI can have different health risks depending on where their fat is stored.
